The Phoenix Suns fired Monty Williams on Saturday, two years after reaching the NBA Finals and a year after he was the overwhelming choice as the coach of the year.Williams had great success in his four regular seasons in Phoenix, winning 63% of his games. But three consecutive years of playoff frustration was likely too much for the Suns to overlook — especially after two straight years of Phoenix trailing by 30 points at halftime of elimination games at home.ESPN and The Athletic first reported the decision.“Monty has been foundational to our success over the past four seasons,” said James Jones, the Suns’ president of basketball operations and general manager. “We are filled with gratitude for everything Monty has contributed to the Suns and to the Valley community.”Jones also said he made the decision to fire Williams. The Suns had a 2-0 lead in the 2021 NBA Finals, only to lose in six games. DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner was to spend the night in the hospital after being struck in the head by a line drive in the second inning against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. “He’s under observation at a local hospital,” Colorado manager Bud Black said after the Phillies’ 7-4 win. “He’s undergoing a litany of exams and tests. We’ll know more in the morning.” Nick Castellanos lined a 1-0 slider back to the mound at 92.7 mph. The ball went off the back right side of Feltner’s head. The right-hander immediately collapsed to the ground as the ball deflected to first baseman C.J. Cron. Castellanos was safe with a single. Feltner didn’t appear to lose consciousness. He lay on his stomach and was squinting his eyes as two members of the Colorado training stuff sprinted to the mound. With the crowd hushed, Feltner eventually sat up, then got to his feet with catcher Elias Diaz standing next to him. A couple of weeks ago we highlighted all of the players Boston has moved on from since last summer’s trade deadline, and most haven’t gone on to do much with their new teams. Xander Bogaerts was an obvious outlier, but at the time you couldn’t make a strong case the Red Sox missed many of the others, starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi among them. That may have been a tad premature.Eovaldi didn’t get off to the greatest start, posting a 5.20 ERA over his first five starts with the Texas Rangers, but over the past two weeks has settled down and become absolutely dominant. The 33-year-old has now put together a run of 28.2 consecutive scoreless innings, including three straight scoreless outings in which he threw eight innings or more. That includes a complete game shutout on April 29 against the Yankees, and this past Thursday he came within one out of throwing another against Oakland, recording a career-high 12 strikeouts over 8.2 innings in the 4-0 win.Overall Eov...Patricia Arquette, Matt Dillon take ‘High Desert’ trip

Showbusiness is notorious for seeing youthful performers as easily disposable. Yet Patricia Arquette and Matt Dillon began as teenagers and endured. The latest evidence: Their wacky, comically drug-addled “High Desert” series, streaming Wednesday on AppleTV+.To what do they credit their durability, longevity and sustained interest so many years later?“I’m gonna say, first of all, good luck,” Arquette, seated next to Dillon for a Zoom interview, began. “Second of all, choosing good other talent to work with.“Even though Matt was a heartthrob, he didn’t go for that clean, clear leading man, the obvious thing. And I didn’t go for that either. I always wanted messy, complicated parts, interesting stories. When you only commit to that leading lady-leading man thing it’s a dead-end road.”“For me, I always believed in myself,” Dillon, 59, began. “I wasn’t interested in fame; I was really interested in work. Doing good work. That can be frustrating at times.“Be...Latest news
