Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:34:07 GMT

A few years ago, a feature called Voice ID was probably perfectly secure. It’s used by many companies—including some banks—as a way to verify your identity by having you speak a phrase or two in your own unique voice. The problem is, these days, your own unique voice doesn’t necessarily have to come from your own mouth.Joseph Cox is a reporter with Motherboard, he joins us to discuss how he used AI-driven voice cloning software to hack his own online banking account, what the rapid advance of this technology means for existing forms of online security, and how to protect yourself amidst an escalating cybersecurity arms race. You can find our main website at thebigstorypodcast.ca. WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s April 22, 2027, and 72 hours into a first-strike Chinese attack on Taiwan and the U.S. military response. Already, the toll on all sides is staggering. It was a war game, but one with a serious purpose and high-profile players: members of the House select committee on China. The conflict unfolded on Risk board game-style tabletop maps and markers under a giant gold chandelier in the House Ways and Means Committee room. The exercise explored American diplomatic, economic and military options if the United States and China were to reach the brink of war over Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing claims as its own. The exercise played out one night last week and was observed by The Associated Press. It was part of the committee’s in-depth review of U.S. policies toward China as lawmakers, especially in the Republican-led House, focus on tensions with President Xi Jinping’s government. In the war game, Beijing’s missiles and rockets cascade down on Ta...

Ivey spokesperson Gina Maiola identified the book as the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Developmentally Appropriate Practice Book, 4th edition. Maiola said she understands that the books have been removed from the state classrooms.“The education of Alabama’s children is my top priority as governor, and there is absolutely no room to distract or take away from this mission. New COVID vaccine guidance explained: Are you due for a shot?

(The Hill) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday released updated guidance on COVID-19 vaccinations, in what the agency described as a move to “simplify” future immunizations.Much of the FDA’s simplification involves recommending only a single dose of the bivalent COVID-19 vaccines created by Pfizer and Moderna for most people. These are the vaccines that target the original Wuhan strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus along with the BA.4 and BA.5 strains of the omicron variant, and were first made available about 7 months ago. The original COVID vaccines are no longer authorized for use in the U.S. after the FDA’s vaccine advisory panel in January voted unanimously to essentially phase them out for the bivalent boosters. FDA officials believe this new schedule will boost vaccine coverage throughout the country. With the official end of the national COVID-19 public health emergency less than a month away, this move towards shorter, simpler vaccine schedules marks...

A day later, a federal appeals court temporarily delayed Pomerantz's deposition hours before it was scheduled to take place amid an appeal from the DA's office."This evening, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office withdrew its appeal in Bragg v. Jordan. Mr. Pomerantz's deposition will go forward on May 12, and we look forward to his appearance," a spokesperson for House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said in a statement on Friday...
