BANGKOK (AP) — World shares were mixed on Wednesday after China reported trade data pointing to a further slowing of its recovery from the disruptions of the pandemic. Germany’s DAX shed 0.3% to 15,937.77 and the CAC 40 in Paris slipped 0.4% to 7,183.35. London’s FTSE 100 was barely changed at 7,626.60. The future for the S&P 500 was down 0.1% while that for the Dow industrials lost 0.2%. Oil prices advanced. China reported its exports fell 7.5% from a year earlier in May and imports were down 4.5%, adding to signs of a slowing of its economic recovery following the lifting in December of anti-virus controls that disrupted travel and commerce. The decline in exports was the first year-on-year drop in in three months, with export volumes falling below their levels at the start of the year. “And with the worst yet to come for many developed economies, we think exports will decline further before bottoming out later this year,” Julian Evans-Pritchard of Capital Economics...Israeli Cabinet minister chides US Vice President Harris for judicial overhaul criticism

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s foreign minister chided U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday for speaking out against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned overhaul of the country’s judiciary. The exchange underscored tensions between the Biden administration and Netanyahu’s new government — the most right-wing and religious in Israel’s history — over the planned judicial overhaul. Speaking at an Israeli embassy event in Washington on Tuesday, Harris had said that shared values are “the bedrock of the U.S.-Israel relationship” and that democracies are “built on strong institutions, checks and balances, and, I’ll add, an independent judiciary.”Eli Cohen, Israel’s foreign minister, told Kan public radio “I can tell you that if you ask her what bothers her about the reform, she won’t be able to tell you”. He said he believes Harris has not read the bills in question. Biden has publicly expressed concern over the Netanyahu government’s...Kuwait’s election brings little change to parliament or hope of overcoming years of gridlock

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Voters in Kuwait returned most of their lawmakers to parliament in the third election in as many years amid widespread frustration with the ongoing political gridlock, according to results released Wednesday.Thirty-seven lawmakers kept their seats in the 50-member assembly following Tuesday’s election, the state-run KUNA news agency said. Authorities did not release an official turnout figure, which analysts had expected to be low.Kuwait is alone among Gulf Arab countries in having a democratically elected parliament that exerts some checks on the ruling family — which nevertheless appoints the government and can dissolve the assembly at will. In recent years, gridlock between the appointed government and the assembly has prevented the enactment of even basic reforms in the small, oil-rich country. The last election, held in September, delivered a mandate for change, with a majority of incumbents exiting the chamber. But in March, the Constitu...4 women critical after crash involving semi

Hi Jaime, my husband and I bought a nice house in Clifton Park a few months ago, and we love the house and the neighborhood except for one thing, this older guy across the street, stares at me. He'll sit in his garage while I'm watering my flowers or doing yard work. If I move to a part of my yard he can't see from his garage, he'll go move to where he can see me. He never says anything, he looks normal, he's married with grown kids and grandkids, but he stares. At first I thought it was my imagination but now I keep my curtains closed because he actually was looking at me in the living room last week. My husband doesn't want to confront him because he's not breaking the law and doesn't want to make an enemy out of a neighbor. I asked my two next door neighbors if he sta...7 fire departments fight 40-foot wildfire in Poestenkill
