THOMAS WITH WORK TO DO AHEAD OF RYDER CUPHOYLAKE, England (AP) — Justin Thomas dug himself a deeper hole ahead of the Ryder Cup by missing the cut at the British Open.Thomas made three birdies in an even-par round of 71 on Friday to end the tournament at 11 over, several shots above the cut line. The poor result prompted Thomas to plan on playing at the 3M Open next week and at the Wyndham Championship after that to try to earn enough points to make it to the postseason.“I want to make the Ryder Cup more than anything,” Thomas said. “I’m probably honestly trying too hard to do it. It reminds me a lot of my first or second year on tour. I’ve tried so hard to make that team for the first time. I’m in a very similar position.”He said he has been “trying to make it easy” on U.S. captain Zach Johnson by getting into the top six and qualifying automatically, “but I seem to not want to do that with my golf.”“(I) have a couple events left to try to get in the playoffs and then make a little ...

Gunman who ambushed North Dakota police had a ‘binary trigger’ that let him fire rapidly, AG says

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The gunman who ambushed police officers in Fargo, North Dakota, last week had a “binary trigger” that allowed him to fire rapidly, authorities said Friday. The .223-caliber rifle that Mohamad Barakat used in his July 14 attack sounded like an automatic weapon because of how quickly it fired, state Attorney General Drew Wrigley said at a news conference.Barakat killed one officer and wounded two others and a civilian before Zach Robinson, the fourth officer at the scene, shot and killed him as bystanders crouched in fear nearby. Wrigley said Robinson was the “last man standing” between the “horrible events” that Barakat had planned that day.He also said because of how quickly he fired, the wounded officers fell in quick succession. As for motive, Wrigley said Barakat was driven by hate and wanting to kill, and that he wasn’t particular about which group or individual.Barakat briefly trained as an emergency responder at a nearby community college. He had no cri...

With ‘Theater Camp’ and ‘The Bear,’ Molly Gordon is having a moment

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:36:16 GMT

Molly Gordon is having a good summer, professionally speaking. Her directorial debut “ Theater Camp,” which she made with some of her best friends, is in theaters. On the small screen, fans of “The Bear” are falling for her in the popular Hulu show’s second season, too. It’s a moment, by any definition, but for her it still feels a little surreal.“I think I’m still kind of catching up on sleep,” Gordon, 27, told the Associated Press in an interview conducted before SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA to stike for a fair deal. The writer-actor-director has been on a breakneck schedule for about a year. Last summer, she and some of her oldest friends, including Ben Platt, got together in upstate New York to make their loving mockumentary “Theater Camp, ” a comedy about a charming but crumbling kids musical theater camp that’s based on many of their own experiences. She’d spend the next several months rushing to edit their many hours of largely improvised scenes into a coherent and enjoyable film...
